Wyatt Earp
How many gunfights was Wyatt Earp actually in?
George asks, "How many gunfights was Wyatt Earp actually in?"
Regardless of his legend, Wyatt Earp was in only two documented gunfights, both of which loom largely in Old West history: the O.K. Corral street fight and the shootout with Curly Bill Brocius.
This is not to say these were the only times Wyatt discharged a firearm. Indeed, Wyatt fired shots several times during his career -- shooting at an escaping desperado in Dodge City, for example, and the Tombstone Vendetta affair -- but such outbursts are not what one would consider a "fight" or "shootout."
Wyatt tended to use his gun more as a threat or a promise, preferring to "buffalo" his opponents over pulling the trigger.
